SM Prime Holdings Inc. officially introduced its new ₱7-billion mega-arena in Cebu last Thursday, placing a strategic bet on the growing post-pandemic demand for tourism and entertainment across Central Visayas.
With a capacity of 25,000 people and a gross floor area covering seven hectares, the SM Seaside Cebu Arena was first presented to corporate partners before its official launch of major events this coming Saturday. Designed by internationally renowned architecture firm Arquitectonica, this striking wave-shaped glass structure is set to claim the title of the largest indoor arena in Central and Southern Philippines.
Furthermore, this new facility represents a major expansion of SM Prime’s development at the South Road Properties (SRP). It connects seamlessly to an existing large-scale shopping mall, a convention center, and two hotels — creating a comprehensive destination for visitors and guests.
“Developing this arena aligns with our long-term vision for Cebu. By building a world-class venue for live performances and large gatherings within SRP, we offer both local residents and foreign travelers another compelling reason to visit and extend their stay,” explained SM Prime President Jeffrey Lim during the launch event. “Equally significant, this investment will open up new economic opportunities for local businesses and nearby communities.”
Equipped with modern technology, the venue includes 30 exclusive premier suites and a large center-hung display system suitable for both sporting competitions and concerts. Ultimately, it aims to establish Cebu as a key stop on global touring routes — serving audiences who previously had to travel all the way to Manila for major shows.
The arena’s event calendar kicks off on July 11 with its first major headliner: BINI’s Signals World Tour. Following this debut, the lineup will feature popular acts such as LANY and Hillsong Worship.
“Cebu has long been recognized as one of the country’s most vibrant markets. With this new venue, we can bring more top Filipino and international artists directly to the Visayas, reinforcing the region’s standing in the live entertainment industry,” Lim added.
Looking ahead, the facility will also host the 2027 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in July of next year. As previously announced by SM Prime, the Seaside Cebu Arena will have a larger seating capacity compared to the iconic Mall of Asia Arena in Metro Manila.
